Canadian soldier survives suicide bombing
Maybe even a lot crazy, a soldier by training and an amateur comedian in his spare time, a first rate prankster with a mischievous bag of tricks.
One of his marquee gags,p90x3, one he trots out when he is out on the town with his army pals, involves his milky looking mess of a right eye. Someone, perhaps a stranger, air max @#$%&, or perhaps even a pretty girl will, if enough time passes,@#$%& shoes, get around to asking him what happened?
Then Franck Dupr will get all animated, start waving his hands. Start talking about being a plumber and how those water tanks ho boy they can be tricky, or how he was polishing his nails and you never know with nail polish since it could be pretty in pink one second and Ka Boom the next.
And then Cpl. Dupr leans back and laughs, a raspy guffawing roar,@#$%& tn, and then he leans forward and looks at me, with his good eye, and starts telling me the real story, and even though his best friend in the world, his army buddy, Master Corporal Peter Burcew, has heard it a million times before,@#$%&, he leans in to listen, too, prada shoes, because Cpl. Dupr should not be sitting in an empty CBC studio in Toronto, roshe run, yapping away.
He should be in 10 different pieces. He should be a Canadian soldier whose life story is told in the past tense; blown to smithereens by a suicide bomber in a crowded marketplace in Talukan, louboutin, Afghanistan; RIP ole Franckie boy.

The bomber was two metres away from him when the world shook. It was April 2011,rayban. Cpl. Dupr was on patrol with an American unit. They were distributing textbooks to Afghan school kids. They were 300 metres from their base.
"I never saw the guy, abercrombie," the corporal says, in a thick Qubcois accent. "The bazaar was full of people and the blast [threw me back] and pushed the air from my lungs and I fell on my back, michael kors uk, and I was a little bit lucky because I managed to keep calm.
"And I remember thinking, 'OK, I blew up. I can't believe it. Is this a f dream?' And then I was like, do I have all my limbs, because I couldn't move my left arm. So I felt for it with my right arm and it was still attached and then I looked to my right and I saw a leg lying there and I thought, michael kors handbags, 'Oh no.'
"But I felt for my legs and I still had both of them and then I touched my face. It felt warm. Blood was squirting out of my neck. So I thought, 'OK, that's it. I'm dead, new balance walking shoes, and I lay back and looked at the sky and I felt myself dying.'"
Master Cpl. Burcew wasn't with his friend when the suicide bomber struck. He was on patrol 5 kilometres away, chi hair. When he returned to base he heard the news: Two Canadians had been hit, hogan outlet. Bad.
"I knew right away it was Franckie," he says. "I can't explain why. I didn't know it was possible to have this sixth sense, like a mother knowing something is wrong with her child.
"But I also knew that Franckie was going to make it. I've been to multiple ramp ceremonies to bring our dead home and I couldn't imagine doing that for him, carrying his casket, going back to Canada for his funeral. Somehow I knew he would be OK."
And he is OK, if you discount the fact that he is a little bit nuts, a wiry veteran of our Afghan war with a wrecked right eye, a wicked scar across his throat, mulberry outlet, a face full of titanium, a left hand that doesn't work like it once did and who knows how many more surgeries to look forward to.
He didn't die in that dusty bazaar. An American medic staunched the wound and another grabbed a souvenir from the scene the suicide bomber's shroud a macabre reminder of a near fatal scrape that Cpl. Dupr tucked into his backpack this past October when he and Master Cpl. Burcew and a group of wounded Canadian veterans headed to Nepal with a CBC documentary crew and the True Patriot Love Foundation to trek in the shadow of Mt. Everest and climb Island Peak, one of the Himalayan giant's smaller sisters. March to the Top airs Sunday on the documentary channel and Monday on CBC. Master Cpl. Burcew was one of several people who blogged about theexperiencefor the National Post as he was climbing.
On a snowy February night in Toronto, two of its stars sat with me,soccer jerseys, telling soldier stories. They cursed. They laughed. They made it clear,@#$%& @#$%&, in awful detail, with sentiments that seemed too old for the two young men that were speaking them, how fragile life is how it is here, then gone and so you better not hold back. You better live.
And bringing some dead guy's red wine coloured shroud to Nepal was Cpl,@#$%& outlet. Dupr's way of shouting at the world: I made it.
"I don't know if there is a heaven or a hell, but on that mountain I could look at that and I could think I'm still here," he says. "I'm on top of the world and you [flips the bird at the dead bomber, wherever he is] are not."
Master Cpl. Burcew shakes his head. The whole climb he kept waiting for a show of weakness, free running, a sign that the bomber had marked his friend with emotional scars.
"It is amazing to me,michael kors," he says. "Franckie hasn't changed a bit. He was exactly like this before he got hit. The only time he softened in Nepal is when he turned to me,@#$%& sunglasses outlet, at one point,@#$%& coats, and said in French how beautiful it was. That's the only time."
Now it is time for more jokes.
Two French Canadian soldiers are in Toronto for a night. They are hitting the town. Some drinking might be involved. Some story telling, too, about the perils of being a plumber, air max, about climbing a mountain in Nepal, about coming home from a terrible war in one piece Post
