Things to look for when renting a Banquet Hall for an Event or Party:
A Party Banquet Hall's main product is "Time and Space". They are renting you certain amount of space for a certain period of time. So it's very important to understand what the size of their main venue, where the guests are seated, is. This can be determined based on square footage of the space, maximum number of guests allowed, maximum number of chairs and tables available.
Remember the overall square footage of the Venue does not matter as much as the square footage of the main room where the guests are seated. You can divide this square footage with the number of guests and figure our how much space per guest is available. For example a 2000 square foot room for 100 guests gives you 20 square foot per guest, which is considered a very comfortable space. The space per guest should be anywhere from 15 to 20.
Since Banquet Halls are renting you time and space, there is always a limit on how many hours you have the possession of the Hall for. It does not matter what you do with the Venue, when they give you the Venue, they cannot use it for anything else and their utility, equipment and staff costs kick in. You should always budget for additional rent because most parties don't finish on time.
Other things to look for are: Is there large enough parking available? Is the parking free? Is there a dance area available?
Is there equipment included like TVs, Sound System, Refrigerator, Buffet Table, Bar? Having the right equipment makes your party go smooth. For example if you are serving mixed drinks, having an ice maker on site is a must.
