Brisbane Roar 0 Celtic 3
PLAYED one,@#$%&, won one. One trophy safely in the bag. Tony Mowbray is off to a flyer.
But much as he would love to continue in this triumphant vein the new Celtic manager won't be fooled by his team's comfortable Translink Cup win against Brisbane Roar who barely managed a whimper in the Suncorp Stadium yesterday.
Mowbray knows the real thing,@#$%& air max 2013, which begins at the end of this month with Celtic's first Champions League qualifying match, will be much more demanding.
Apart from raking in as much as half a million quid and performing in front of more than 25,000 of their appreciative exiled fans, Mowbray led his players to the other side of the world just to stretch their legs. It was an exhausting trip but already Celtic are winners.
They scored a hit with the locals and then Chris Killen, with a double, prada sunglasses, and Koki Mizuno scored the goals that left Roar and three former Rangers players, Craig Moore, sac louis @#$%&, Charlie Miller and Bob Malcolm, gasping. Celtic's finishing was sharp and clinical.
Yet it was Roar who should have been ahead early in the game but Artur Boruc continued to endear himself to the new manager with a few terrific saves which gave his side time to adjust to playing again and especially after such a long journey.
They must have thought they were still jet lagged and sleeping as they lined up in the tunnel in Brisbane's premier sporting arena and heard Flower of Scotland like they had never heard it before, bottega.
This could have been some kind of bizarre dream because this time the national lament was being belted out from the end of a large didgeridoo.
The kid playing it was backed by a kilted piper and it sounded like a cat being attacked by a moose. I kid you not but it was that kind of experience,@#$%& @#$%&.
In the good seats the fans were having cheese platters, herve leger, fruit combos and sushi delivered by waiters.
They were also sipping from fine wine glasses, michael kors canada. All very weird and surreal but somehow I can't see it ever happening at any of our grounds.
But outside it was more familiar with fans arriving at the ground about three and a half hours before kick off, michael kors @#$%&.
They had journeyed from Britain, kate spade, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, America and of course every state in Australia to see Mowbray's first game in charge and the final number was 31,moncler,340 the highest attendance of any Australian friendly.
But loads of them seemed to have emerged from history. They were wearing Celtic tops with the names Sutton, ferragamo outlet, Larsson and Nakamura on them.
One of them had NTL on the front and as Mowbray was beginning a new era he was surrounded by memories of the past.
Appropriate then that someone who seemed consigned to that past, Killen, should shine, louis @#$%& uk, along with Mizuno, because of their goals, although Boruc stood out in the first half before making way for his countryman Lukasz Zaluska.
In fact,@#$%&, true to his word Mowbray gave all his players a runout. Some pounced on their opportunities,@#$%& sunglasses outlet, others didn't and will need more time.
Willo Flood and Marc Crosas, who were at the heart of the midfield, air max, worked and tried to pick out the strikers, moncler, Scott McDonald and Killen in the first half and then Georgios Samaras with Aiden McGeady darting around him in the second.
But Flood and Crosas know they'll have to do much more if they are to keep Scott Brown and Barry Robson on the sidelines when they have recovered from their injuries.
However, oakley sunglasses, that won't be Mowbray's main problem. His difficulty will come when Stephen McManus is fit again because Gary Caldwell strolled through the match and looked every inch a captain when he took the armband from McDonald when the little Aussie was taken off in the second half.
It was Boruc and then Caldwell who held it all together in the first 25 minutes when Roar were actually threatening and afterwards Mowbray said: "It was there again before my eyes what a good leader Caldwell is,hogan outlet."
And from that it can also be read Mowbray will have made it clear to Celtic that Caldwell, who is seeking a new deal,@#$%& mercurial, must be accommodated.
They'll need Scotland's Player of the Year in the season ahead because he reads the game better than the others around him, rayban, although it should be pointed out that full backs Andreas Hinkel and Lee Naylor, montre homme, made the first and third goals with their surges down the flanks.
Paddy McCourt started the match but he flattered to deceive and still looks unfit. He has a sweet touch, though, lancel, and if he could just rouse himself he could be a player, marc by marc jacobs, but until he catches up with the pace he won't be a first pick, moncler outlet, unlike Caldwell, air max, Boruc and MarcAntoine Fortune, cheap sunglasses, who made his debut after signing last week.
He held the ball up well and brought others into the action but needs the kind of goals return McDonald can provide even if he didn't find the net yesterday while Killen and then Mizuno struck, oakley.
After Boruc had denied Robbie Kruse (twice) and Sergio van Dijk Celtic seemed to wake up and Shaun Maloney and McDonald tested Roar keeper Liam Reddy before the breakthrough arrived in 38 minutes.
Naylor worked his way down the left and sent a perfect cross into the middle. Killen couldn't resist, skipped into the air and headed in from four yards bringing the crowd to life.
After a noisy build up to the game they had fallen silent but it took a New Zealander to bring them round. And three minutes later he scored a gem of a goal, gucci outlet.
This time he headed down to Maloney who returned first time and from the edge of Roar's box Killen steered the ball into the lefthand corner of Reddy's net, tiffany co.
