Getting more from a pair of running shoes
In the running community it is generally believed that you should replace a pair of running shoes every 500 miles or so. That is the recommendation for an average sized runner. If you are heavier or have a lighter build that number can easily be 100 or 200 miles more or less. However, if you take running seriously and run frequently, buying a new pair of running shoes every two or three months can run into money. But the new shoe, the better shoe could save you money in the long run by providing you with greater foot arch support, improved running comfort, less fatigue, and less foot pain that can prevent costly injuries.
Cheap sneakers
Generally speaking, buying an inexpensive pair of shoes or sneakers is not recommended for the serious runner. The cheaper sneakers and running shoes are usually not well made and do not offer many of the advanced engineering features that go into the design of better, more expensive products.
I do not want to be an elitist and say that you get what you pay for, some people simply can not afford the more expensive shoes. Buy what you can within your budget, but compare the features of the product you do buy with the more expensive running shoes and make the choice that will be best for you.
Often, you can save some of the expense of new running shoes by taking good care of those you have. Better care will make them last longer. The more you care about your running shoes, the longer you can expect them to last.
Here is how to make your shoes last longer
Only wear your running shoes when you are running. Running shoes can be very comfortable but don't use them as if they were your only pair of Running shoes. Save them for running, jogging, or working out. The more often you wear them, gradual wear and tear will increase. The insole cushioning and the lining on the inside of the shoe, especially around the vamp and quarter panels can be torn or wear more quickly. The linings can also be torn and or experience quicker damaging wear. When this happens your running shoes stability decreases and any damage to the shoe can be translated to foot or leg injuries.
Wear soft comfortable shoes or slipper when you're at home. If you go for a walk or a stroll in a park, wear a good pair of walking shoes instead.
Do not abuse your shoes. Learn how to take them off the right way. Always unlace your shoes when taking them off. Do not just slip them off your feet. And, do not pull them off because you will stretch the materials. The more your shoes are stressed and abused through wearing them the sooner they will wear out.
