The police also took statements from relatives and employees.Furthermore, the official said that Quincy Arthur, one of the suspects caught after the robbery on Tuesday, is at present on bail for another robbery committed almost a month ago. Arthur is being detained at the Beterverwagting Police Station.The police described Arthur as a known character, who had multiple robbery charges against his name.?He is well known to the police?and he is on bail for another robbery that happened almost a month ago? said the official.The official added that Arthur is suspected to be a part of an East Coast Demerara gang that has committed a series of robberies.Meanwhile this newspaper was told that Rural Constable, Davenand Shymaraj, is recovering well at a private hospital. Shymaraj was shot as he bravely tried to stop the fleeing bandits. He was shot in the leg and hand. A bullet also grazed his shoulder. He underwent surgery to have the bullets removed from his body.Shymaraj had told Kaieteur News that after he heard about the robbery he uplifted his shotgun and headed to the area.  However on his way he noticed two of the bandits running out of the street so he exited his vehicle with the gun.By that time the two men who were carrying guns opened fire on Shymaraj, who returned fire. Shymaraj was shot but he managed to hit one of the gunmen who was subsequently apprehended by police.The gunfire damaged the windscreen of Shymaraj?s vehicle.
